Common symptoms relating to the breast are pain, breast lumps and nipple discharge. While the majority of the time it will not be due to cancer, it is crucial to have the appropriate confirmatory tests done for early diagnosis and treatment. Most tests are non invasive or minimally invasive and done under local anaesthesia, so making a diagnosis is a relatively simple procedure. It is definitely worth the effort for peace of mind.
Breast cancer is rising in incidence worldwide especially in developed nations and Singapore has the highest rate of increase in Asia. More young women are also being diagnosed with breast cancer. Fortunately the prognosis of breast cancer when treated early is excellent.
Minimally invasive techniques are now available for early diagnosis of abnormal mammogram and ultrasound findings, allowing expedient surgery and treatment. Surgical options of breast conservation, oncoplastic surgery, sentinel lymph node biopsy and immediate reconstruction allow women to lead a normal lifestyle after treatment, reducing the morbidity and stigma associated with breast cancer treatment.
Image guided minimally invasive needle biopsy achieves histological certainty in majority of breast conditions including ability to remove small lesions completely
such as sentinel lymph node biopsy, oncoplastic surgery and skin sparing mastectomy and immediate reconstruction improves outcome and reduces morbidity after cancer surgery
"I went for a colonoscopy, gastroscopy, and hemorrhoidectomy procedure with Dr Melvin Look. It was nerve wrecking for me to go under general anesthesia (GA) but Dr Look eased my fears with his calm and confident demeanour along with his funny disposition. Had a smooth and successful procedure with attentive pre- and post-op care from Dr Look who has been very patient with all my questions before and after the surgery!"
I met Dr Sam Peh in 2018 when I was admitted to parkway east hospital for acute unrinary retention . We just monitor the situation on 6 monthly psa reading In 2020 the psa reading spiked and am MRI scan shows 2 lesions in the prostate Dr. Peh give me the option to burn the 2 lesions using the HIFU technology. I’m glad to use HIFU as the downtime was like only a day. Dr Peh always explain the procedures to me using simple layman’s language and with drawings as illustrations. I feel safe and confident with Dr Peh as my urologist.
